Feed the Future Egypt Rural Agribusiness Strengthening Project is an eight-year USAID-funded activity (2018-2026), supported by the U.S. government’s Feed the Future initiative. The project aims to improve the competitiveness of Egypt’s horticulture producers and related down-stream businesses and food processors. The project promotes a more competitive and inclusive Egyptian economy through growth in selected horticultural sectors with special focus on securing employment and increasing agriculture-related incomes of smallholder farmers. The project is strengthening Egypt’s horticulture market system and improving the capacity of smallholder farmers and processors, producer organizations (POs), and horticultural institutions through agricultural knowledge transfer and training to familiarize farmers with higher-value production of horticulture crops. Improvements to the value chain will raise employment and incomes for vulnerable Egyptians and enhance food security throughout the country. The project’s goal is to create a more competitive and inclusive Egyptian economy through horticulture sector growth, with special focus on securing employment and increasing agriculture-related incomes of smallholder farmers in Upper Egypt and the Delta.
Assignment Background
Improving nutrition status of the target beneficiaries is one of the main objectives of the project. The Home Food Industry consultant will support nutritional activities through conducting home food industry training to target women beneficiaries in target areas. The training program will increase the knowledge of the participants about nutritional meals, food safety, and food budgeting. The nutrition Home Food Industry consultant will work together with the program staff, under the supervision of the Nutrition Lead, to fulfil all the project requirements with technical reviews from the Gender and SBCC Leads where relevant. The Home Food Industry Consultant will empower the women beneficiaries through helping them produce healthy food for their families with low costs.
