Feed the Future Egypt Rural Agribusiness Strengthening Project is an eight-year USAID-funded activity (2018-2026), supported by the U.S. government’s Feed the Future initiative. The project aims to improve the competitiveness of Egypt’s horticulture producers and related down-stream businesses and food processors. The project promotes a more competitive and inclusive Egyptian economy through growth in selected horticultural sectors with special focus on securing employment and increasing agriculture-related incomes of smallholder farmers. The project is strengthening Egypt’s horticulture market system and improving the capacity of smallholder farmers and processors, producer organizations (POs), and horticultural institutions through agricultural knowledge transfer and training to familiarize farmers with higher-value production of horticulture crops. Improvements to the value chain will raise employment and incomes for vulnerable Egyptians and enhance food security throughout the country. The project’s goal is to create a more competitive and inclusive Egyptian economy through horticulture sector growth, with special focus on securing employment and increasing agriculture-related incomes of smallholder farmers in Upper Egypt and the Delta.
Assignment Background
Improving nutrition status of the target beneficiaries is one of the main objectives of the project. Nutrition Education & Communication Consultants (NECCs) will support nutrition stream activities through conducting training program to target population, both males and females, of fresh university graduates and women beneficiaries in target areas. The training program will increase the knowledge of the participants about diet plans, diet diversity, and food budgeting. It aims to increase their knowledge about food groups, healthy diets, and macro& micro-nutrient requirements of different age and physiological groups.
The NECCs will work together with the program staff, under the supervision of the Nutrition Lead, to fulfil all the project requirements. Nutrition education & communication consultants will conduct Training of Trainers (TOT) training to university graduates and teachers of Agriculture Technical Schools (ATS) in target governorates to increase their knowledge about food items, food groups, diet planning, composition of healthy diets, and improve their skills in conducting nutrition educational sessions. Trained university graduates and teachers of ATSs’ will participate in the project activities, and they will have an important role in nutrition sensitive social and behavioral change communication.
NECCs will participate in training programs for women association leaders to improve their nutrition knowledge and communication skills in order to empower them to become Community Nutrition Trainers (CNTs) in their communities.
NECCs will help in developing nutrition educational materials in the form of brochures, posters, flyers, etc. that will be used innutrition training activities. The NECCs will be responsible for communicating with community nutrition educators to facilitate their community nutrition education activities.
